1. 그 무렵에 카이사르 아우구스투스가 칙령을 내려 온 세상이 조세 등록을 하게 하였는데
2. (이 조세 등록은 구레뇨가 시리아의 총독이었을 때 처음 한 것이더라.)
3. 모든 사람이 조세 등록을 하러 저마다 자기의 도시로 가매
4. 요셉도 (다윗의 집과 혈통에 속하였으므로) 갈릴리의 나사렛 시에서 나와 유대로 올라가 베들레헴이라 하는 다윗의 도시에 이르러
5. 자기의 정혼한 아내 마리아와 함께 조세 등록을 하려 하였는데 그녀가 아이를 배어 배가 불렀더라.
6. 그들이 거기 있을 때에 그녀가 해산할 날들이 다 차매
7. 그녀가 자기의 맏아들을 낳아 포대기로 싸서 구유에 뉘었으니 이는 여관에 그들을 위한 방이 없었기 때문이더라.
8. 바로 그 지역에서 목자들이 들에 거하며 밤에 자기 양 떼를 지키더라.

14. 가장 높은 곳에서는 [하나님]께 영광이요, 땅에서는 평화와 사람들을 향한 선하신 뜻이로다, 하니라.
15. 천사들이 그들을 떠나 하늘로 올라가니 목자들이 서로 이르되, 이제 우리가 베들레헴까지 가서 [주]께서 우리에게 알려 주신 일 곧 일어난 이 일을 보자, 하고
16. 서둘러 가서 마리아와 요셉과 구유에 누인 아기를 찾아서
17. 보고는 그때에 천사가 이 아이에 대하여 자기들에게 말한 것을 널리 알리니
18. 그것을 들은 자들이 다 목자들이 말하는 그 일들을 이상히 여기되
19. 마리아는 이 모든 일을 마음속에 간직하고 깊이 생각하니라.
20. 목자들은 천사가 자기들에게 일러 준 대로 자기들이 듣고 본 그 모든 일로 인하여 [하나님]께 영광을 돌리고 찬양하며 돌아가니라.
21. 아이에게 할례를 행하기 위해 여드레가 찼을 때에 그들이 그의 이름을 {예수}라 하니라. 그것은 그분께서 태 속에 수태되기 전에 천사가 일러 준 이름이더라.
22. 또 모세의 율법에 따라 그녀를 정결하게 하는 날들을 채우매 그들이 아이를 데리고 예루살렘에 가니

27. 그가 [성령]을 힘입어 성전에 들어가니 마침 아이의 양친이 율법의 관례대로 아이에게 행하려고 아이 예수님을 데려오므로
28. 이에 시므온이 아이를 팔에 안고 [하나님]을 찬송하여 이르되,
29. [주]여, 이제 주의 말씀대로 주의 종이 평안히 떠나도록 허락하소서.
30. 내 눈이 주의 구원을 보았사온데
31. 그것은 만백성의 얼굴 앞에 예비하신 것이요,
32. 이방인들을 밝히는 빛이요, [주]의 백성 이스라엘의 영광이니이다, 하매
33. 요셉과 아이의 어머니는 그가 아이에 관하여 말한 그것들로 인해 놀라워하더라.

38. 마침 그때에 그녀가 나아와 마찬가지로 [주]께 감사를 드리고 예루살렘에서 구속을 기다리던 모든 사람에게 이 아이에 대하여 말하니라.
39. 그들이 [주]의 율법에 따라 모든 일을 행하고 갈릴리로 돌아가 자기들의 도시 나사렛에 이르니라.
40. 아이가 자라며 영이 강하게 되고 지혜가 충만하며 [하나님]의 은혜가 그 위에 있더라.
41. 이제 그분의 양친은 해마다 유월절이 되면 예루살렘에 갔더라.
42. 그분께서 열두 살 되셨을 때에 그들이 그 명절의 관례대로 예루살렘에 올라갔다가
43. 그 날들을 채우고 돌아갈 때에 아이 예수님은 뒤에 남아 예루살렘에 머무셨더라. 요셉과 그분의 어머니는 그것을 알지 못한 채
44. 그분이 일행 중에 있는 줄로 생각하고 하룻길을 간 뒤 자기 친족과 친지들 중에서 그분을 찾되
45. 발견하지 못하였으므로 그분을 찾으면서 예루살렘으로 되돌아가니라.
46. 그들이 사흘 뒤에 그분을 성전에서 발견하였는데 그분께서 박사들 한가운데 앉으사 그들의 말을 듣기도 하시며 그들에게 문제들을 묻기도 하시더라.
47. 그분의 말을 들은 자들은 다 그분께서 깨닫고 답변하시는 것들로 인하여 깜짝 놀라더라.
48. 그들이 그분을 보고 심히 놀라며 그분의 어머니는 그분께 이르되, 아들아, 네가 어찌하여 우리에게 이렇게 하였느냐? 보라, 네 아버지와 내가 근심하며 너를 찾았노라, 하매
49. 그분께서 그들에게 이르시되, 어찌하여 나를 찾으셨나이까? 내가 반드시 내 [아버지] 일을 해야 함을 알지 못하셨나이까? 하시니라.
50. 그들은 그분께서 자기들에게 하신 말씀을 깨닫지 못하더라.
51. 그분께서 그들과 함께 내려가사 나사렛에 이르러 그들에게 복종하시더라. 그러나 그분의 어머니는 이 모든 말씀을 마음속에 간직하니라.

Luke 2 [NIV]

 

1. In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.
2. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.)
3. And everyone went to his own town to register.
4. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.
5. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.
6. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,
7. and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
8. And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.
9. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
10. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
11. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.
12. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
13. Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14. "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."
15. When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."
16. So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.
17. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child,
18. and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.
19. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.
20. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
21. On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise him, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he had been conceived.
22. When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been completed, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord
23. (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, "Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord"),
24. and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: "a pair of doves or two young pigeons."
25. Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
26. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
27. Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required,
28. Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:
29. "Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace.
30. For my eyes have seen your salvation,
31. which you have prepared in the sight of all people,
32. a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel."
33. The child's father and mother marveled at what was said about him.
34. Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: "This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of
35. many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against,
36. so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too."
37. There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage,
38. and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.
39. Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.
40. When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth.
41. And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.
42. Every year his parents went to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover.
43. When he was twelve years old, they went up to the Feast, according to the custom.
44. After the Feast was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it.
45. Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends.
46. When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him.
47. After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.
48. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers.
49. When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you."
50. "Why were you searching for me?" he asked. "Didn't you know I had to be in my Father's house?"
51. But they did not understand what he was saying to them.
52. Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart.
53. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
