1. 그러면 육체에 관한 한 우리 조상인 아브라함이 무엇을 얻었다고 우리가 말하리요?
2. 만일 아브라함이 행위로 의롭게 되었으면 그 일에 대하여 자랑할 것이 그에게 있으려니와 [하나님] 앞에서는 없느니라.
3. 성경 기록이 무어라 말하느냐? 아브라함이 [하나님]을 믿으매 그것을 그에게 의로 여기셨느니라, 하느니라.
4. 이제 일하는 자는 품삯을 은혜로 여기지 아니하고 빚으로 여기거니와
5. 일을 하지 아니할지라도 경건치 아니한 자를 의롭다 하시는 이를 믿는 자에게는 그의 믿음을 의로 여기시느니라.
6. 이것은 또한 다윗이 행위가 없어도 [하나님]께서 의를 인정하시는 사람의 복됨에 관해 묘사하여
7. 이르되, 자기 불법들을 용서받고 자기 죄들이 가려진 자들은 복이 있으며
8. [주]께서 죄를 인정하지 아니하실 사람은 복이 있도다, 함과 같으니라.
9. 그러면 이 복됨이 할례자에게만 임하느냐, 혹은 무할례자에게도 임하느냐? 이는 그분께서 아브라함에게 믿음을 의로 간주하셨다고 우리가 말하기 때문이라.
10. 그런즉 그것을 어떻게 의로 간주하셨느냐? 그가 할례 받은 때였느냐, 할례 받지 않은 때였느냐? 할례 받은 때가 아니요, 할례 받지 않은 때니라.
11. 그가 할례의 표적 곧 아직 할례 받지 않은 때에 그가 소유한 믿음의 의를 봉인한 표적을 받았으니 이것은 그가 할례를 받지는 아니하였으나 믿는 모든 자들의 조상이 되어 의가 그들에게도 인정되게 하려 함이요,
12. 또 할례자들에게 속할 뿐만 아니라 우리 조상 아브라함이 아직 할례 받지 않은 때에 소유한 그 믿음의 발자취를 따라 걷는 자들에게 할례의 조상이 되려 함이라.
13. 그가 세상의 상속자가 되리라고 하신 그 약속은 아브라함에게나 그의 씨에게나 율법을 통해 주어지지 아니하고 믿음의 의를 통해 주어졌느니라.
14. 만일 율법에 속한 자들이 상속자가 되면 믿음은 헛것이 되고 그 약속은 효력을 잃게 되느니라.
15. 이는 율법이 진노를 이루기 때문이니 율법이 없는 곳에는 범죄도 없느니라.
16. 그러므로 그것이 은혜로 되게 하려고 믿음에서 나나니 그 목적은 그 약속을 모든 씨에게 확고하게 하려 하심이라. 그것은 곧 율법에 속한 자들에게만 아니라 아브라함의 믿음에 속한 자들에게 그 약속을 확고하게 하려 하심이니 그는 [하나님] 앞에서 우리 모두의 조상이라.
17. (이것은 기록된바, 내가 너를 많은 민족들의 조상으로 삼았느니라, 하심과 같으니) 그가 믿은 [하나님]은 죽은 자들을 살리시며 없는 그것들을 마치 있었던 것처럼 부르시는 이시니라.
18. 그가 바랄 수 없는 중에 바라면서 믿었으니 이것은, 네 씨가 이와 같으리라, 하신 말씀대로 그가 많은 민족들의 조상이 되려 함이라.
19. 그가 백 세쯤 되었을 때에도 믿음이 약해지지 아니하여 이제는 죽은 자기 몸을 고려하지 아니하고 또 사라의 태가 죽은 것도 고려하지 아니하였으며
20. 믿음이 없음을 통해 [하나님]의 약속에 관하여 흔들리지 아니하고 오히려 믿음이 강해져서 [하나님]께 영광을 돌리며
21. 그분께서 약속하신 것을 그분께서 또한 능히 이행하실 줄로 온전히 확신하였으니
22. 그러므로 그분께서 그것을 그에게 의로 인정하셨느니라.
23. 그것을 그에게 의로 인정하셨다고 기록된 것은 이제 그만을 위한 것이 아니요,
24. 우리가 예수 우리 [주]를 죽은 자들로부터 살리신 분을 믿을진대 그것을 의로 인정받을 우리도 위한 것이니라.
25. 그분께서는 우리의 범죄로 인하여 넘겨지셨으며 우리의 칭의를 위하여 다시 일으켜지셨느니라.

 

 

1. What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?
2. For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
3. For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
4. Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
5. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
6. Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
7. Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
8. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
9. Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.
10. How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.
11. And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:
12. And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.
13. For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.
14. For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:
15. Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.
16. Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
17. (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
18. Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.
19. And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb:
20. He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
21. And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
22. And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
23. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;
24. But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;
25. Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
